With increased traffic, road restrictions, and event-day congestion expected during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, here’s what customers need to know, and how to prepare.
As part of our ongoing commitment to keep you informed, we would like to provide advance notice of anticipated service impacts within the Greater Toronto Area due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and matches at being held at BMO Field.
With the first match scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2026 and additional matches taking place throughout June and early July, the city is expecting significant increases in traffic volumes and road restrictions, particularly in the downtown core near Exhibition Place, Fort York, and surrounding corridors.
What this means for you
During this period, customers located within or near impacted zones may experience:
• Traffic congestion and extended transit times
• Road closures and restricted access in key corridors
• Reduced delivery and pickup flexibility on match days
• Potential delivery delays, particularly during peak time windows
The most significant disruptions are expected:
• On match days
• 3 hours before kickoff through 2 hours after the event concludes
With attendance projected at up to 65,000 people per match, surrounding areas will experience heightened congestion impacting freight movement and terminal access.
